Official Galaxy S3 3000mah Extended Battery Review

As promised, our review of the official Galaxy S3 3000mah extended battery kit is up. Many of you Galaxy S3 owners have had your phones for almost a year now. After almost a year of use, your battery has lost some of its ability to hold a good charge. If you're considering replacing your battery, definitely take a look at the extended battery kit. Although it does cost a bit more than the standard battery, it's well worth the price. After going two full days with the extended battery, I wouldn't even consider going back to the stock battery.

Github removes files due to DMCA violation, including one from CyanogenMod

Now this is getting interesting. github(the repository for open source code used by most Android developers) was sent a notice by a French based company called DxO Labs SA,  to take down certain files for violation of DMCA.

Here is a quote from the original notice:

[3] I have a good faith belief that the file downloads identified below (by URL) are unlawful under these copyright laws because among other things, the files circumvent effective access controls and/or copyright protection measures;
[4] Reason:
Content Type: "Custom Firmware" files
Violation(s): Trafficking a device that circumvents effective access controls and/or trafficking a device that circumvents effective copyright protection measures.

There is a repository of CyanogenMod which is a part of the list as well. What we fail to understand is if it is violation of DMCA then what took DxO Labs so long to find that out. We'll see how this story progresses and if the owners of the repositories give us their side of the story.

Andy Rubin passes the Android baton to Sundar Pichai

In some interesting news just a few months prior to Google I/O, Google announced today that Andy Rubin is moving on to other ventures and Sundar Pichai will be in charge of Android henceforth  It was Andy Rubin who proposed the idea to Larry Page and Sergey Brin. After making Android one of the most popular open source mobile operation system Andy has decided to explore new ventures. Sundar Pichai, who is the brains behind Chrome Browser and Chrome OS, will now also be handling the progression of Android. Many look forward in anticipation to what Pichai can bring to Android. Rubin will no doubt be missed greatly for all of the wonderful additions he brought to the little green fellow.

Here is the official statement from Google:-

Sergey and I first heard about Android back in 2004, when Andy Rubin came to visit us at Google. He believed that aligning standards around an open-source operating system would drive innovation across the mobile industry. Most people thought he was nuts. But his insight immediately struck a chord because at the time it was extremely painful developing services for mobile devices. We had a closet full of more than 100 phones and were building our software pretty much device by device. It was nearly impossible for us to make truly great mobile experiences.

Fast forward to today. The pace of innovation has never been greater, and Android is the most used mobile operating system in the world: we have a global partnership of over 60 manufacturers; more than 750 million devices have been activated globally; and 25 billion apps have now been downloaded from Google Play. Pretty extraordinary progress for a decade’s work. Having exceeded even the crazy ambitious goals we dreamed of for Android—and with a really strong leadership team in place—Andy’s decided it’s time to hand over the reins and start a new chapter at Google. Andy, more moonshots please!

Going forward, Sundar Pichai will lead Android, in addition to his existing work with Chrome and Apps. Sundar has a talent for creating products that are technically excellent yet easy to use—and he loves a big bet. Take Chrome, for example. In 2008, people asked whether the world really needed another browser. Today Chrome has hundreds of millions of happy users and is growing fast thanks to its speed, simplicity and security. So while Andy’s a really hard act to follow, I know Sundar will do a tremendous job doubling down on Android as we work to push the ecosystem forward.

Today we’re living in a new computing environment. People are really excited about technology and spending a lot of money on devices. This is driving faster adoption than we have ever seen before. The Nexus program—developed in conjunction with our partners Asus, HTC, LG and Samsung—has become a beacon of innovation for the industry, and services such as Google Now have the potential to really improve your life. We’re getting closer to a world where technology takes care of the hard work—discovery, organization, communication—so that you can get on with what makes you happiest… living and loving. It’s an exciting time to be at Google.

HTC releases a Developers Copy of the One: can we all agree this is the perfect way to appease the ones of us that full enjoy tweaking our phones?
Here's a bit of the old official from their blog:

—————
What could be better than the HTC One; an all-metal phone with 64GB of memory and a 1080p Full HD screen? How about the same phone shipped SIM and bootloader unlocked?

Blog_DeveloperEdition
And let’s not forget that gorgeous 1080p Full HD display that brings graphics, photos, and videos to life. With the HTC One Developer Edition you have a modern platform to build and test your apps.
The HTC One Developer Edition will be available in limited quantities to customers with a US Zip Code for $649 when the HTC One is released in the United States.

——–——
As a long-time fan of their devices,  I feel like I should just stand up and applaud HTC.
This isn't something they're known for.
Getting fully unlocked phones to their customers hasn't always just happened. Fully customizing their devices has been limited in the past to an online software method: the company provided a limited bootloader unlocking method thru external channels, and only then upon the sacrifice of warranty redemption. (Ouch.) That headache of a system has been in place since the Evo 3D days. ("Back in my day, 5uNny...we had to unlock our bootloaders manually...like MEN...") It was only instituted in the first place after heavy petitioning by "custom users" and software hackers of their devices (you know, those of us over at XDA, Rootzwiki and the like.)
Although appreciated, and a decent first step, "fully" unlocked devices haven't been available from HTC, and could only be attained via personally hacking them after purchase with third-party methods.
(Initially, this is only official for the Verizon release of the HTC One, more carrier's versions are sure to follow, if this "Developer's Version" system of offering devices mimics other manufacturers that offer the same.)
HTC: I for one just want to say 'Thank you'.
This gesture has been Noticed, and Appreciated, and this is Progress.
Anytime any manufacturer visibly caters to its customers' wishes, they should be congratulated.
(Seems like HTC really is pulling out all the stops for this device, and here's hoping they sell a zillion of them.)
Thoughts?

Stay Tuned!

OK!  So here's the deal!

I've been saying for the past two weeks that our site will be down for a few days while we switch formats.  Why are we still posting?  I have no idea!  It's completely out of our hands while we're waiting for everything to transfer from Enom, a web hosting company, to our new format.  All of us here at AFN have been kind of sitting on our hands waiting for the transfer to happen, not entirely sure if our posts will be even seen by you.

Once this does happen I promise you all of us here at AFN will hit the ground running and will be one of your top Android news sources.  This has been a very frustrating time for AFN, as all of us here are excited to start spreading the Android gospel.

Until then.....  Stay Tuned!

Nexus 4 Body Glove Nova Case Review

The Body Glove Nova case is perfect for those who would like a slim case like the Poetic Atmosphere, but would also like a little more protection. It boasts dual layer protection that includes a hard shell exterior and a soft gel interior. Think of it as a soft-touch Speck Candyshell for the Nexus 4. At only 1 ounce in weight and $16 on Amazon, it won't hurt your pocket or pocketbook.

First Custom ROM for the HTC One is here

The developers over at xda are wreaking havoc (in a good way). First custom ROM for the HTC One has been baked and is now available for download. The ROM is called Android Revolution and has been baked by xda recognized developer mike1986.

We are pretty sure once the HTC One gets in the hands more developers we will see a flurry of roms for the latest flagship device from HTC, the One.

For more details and downloads head over to the original thread on xda.

H2o Wireless (AT&T Prepaid) Review and Comparison

Aside from the little girl in the Capital One commercials, everyone wants more cash. Switching to a prepaid provider is one easy way you can save a decent hunk of change each month without sacrificing cell coverage or features. H2o Wireless offers one of the best prepaid monthly plans for those who wish to stay on AT&T's network. They offer unlimited minutes and texts plus 2GB of data for $60 a month. Compare that to AT&T's contract plan of unlimited minutes and texts plus 3GB of data for $90 plus tax. If you don't need that extra gigabyte of data, H2o is obviously a better deal. Sure, you won't get LTE, but AT&T's 4G network is more than fast enough to stream HD content. H2o supports number porting, so you don't have to worry about losing your current number. For more information, check out the video above and H2o Wireless's website. If you have any questions about a phone you'd like to use with H2o Wireless, feel free to leave a comment.

Custom Recoveries already available for the HTC One

The HTC One is yet to land in the hands of the common man, but custom recoveries for the device are already available.

Xda member Flyhalf205 has posted ClockworkMod and TWRP recoveries for the HTC One.

Please note the bootloader on the HTC One is yet to be unlocked and we do not know if HTC will support that from their portal or not. Only time will tell if the One's bootloader can be unlocked or not.

Optimus G ROM ported to Nexus 4

We know that you can run Nexus 4 ROMs on the LG Optimus G, but how about running the Optimus G ROM on the Nexus 4? Sounds interesting to me.

Please note this is an alpha build and all warnings of running a custom ROM on your beloved device apply.

What works:-
- It boots
- Screen works
- Sound works
- Charging works
- Bluetooth works
- Connecting to PC works
- LED notification works
- Anything related to CPU/GPU is working
- Navigation buttons for Nexus 4 work

Whats not working:

- GSM + WiFi
- Camera
- GPS
- Notebook FC's
- Random reboots

As you can see this is nowhere near to a daily driver as of now but we are pretty sure progress would be made soon.

If you still feel implied to try it out, head over to the original thread at xda.

Ubuntu Touch ported to the Nexus S

Excited, head over to the original thread on xda for more details.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 keeping the plastic design and back cover.

Love it or hate, Samsung is sticking to their guns with the "plastic-y" design and removable back cover.  The biggest complaint I would say I hear most about the Samsung Galaxy S III is how plastic-y it feels in your hands, while other companies are using glass, aluminum and other higher quality plastics.

Samsung has argued that the plastic back is more durable than competitors because it can absorb physical impact due to it being bendable.  They are also fond of the fact that that this particular plastic is faster to manufacture which means they can ship a higher volume at a faster rate (so that's what happened to the Nexus 4).

Whether you're a fan or not of Samsung's "plastic-y" feel, this is how the Samsung Galaxy S4 is being shipped.

    CyanogenMod 10.1 – M2 now available.

Well the Cyanogenmod Mod news is flowing tonight (as most nights).  Cyanogenmod 10.1 - M2 is available for the Nexus line, also quite a few phones and tablets.  They're basically saying stop reporting bugs on nightlies because they'll be ignored and start reporting issues on the M2 release.  Also remember to always provide a logcat or adb bugreport or they'll be ignored (logcat apps can be found in the Play Store).

So if you own one of these devices and want to take a break from the nightlies, get your flash on and take a break.

List of supported devices as of today :

Devices receiving an M release today are as follows:
    Acer Iconia a700
    Google Nexus S (crespo, crespo4g)
    Google Nexus 7 (grouper, tilapia)
Google Galaxy Nexus (toro, toroplus, maguro)
    Google Nexus 4 (mako)
    Google Nexus 10 (manta)
    Google Nexus Q (steelhead)
    Hardkernel Odroid-U2
    HTC One X (evita)
    HTC Incredible 4G LTE (fireball)
    HTC Evo 4G LTE (jewel)
    HTC One S (ville)
    LG Nitro HD (p930)
    LG Optimus LTE (su640)
    LG Spectrum (vs920)
Samsung Galaxy S (captivatemtd, galaxysbmtd, galaxysmtd, epicmtd)
Samsung Galaxy SII (i9100g, hercules, skyrocket)
    Samsung Galaxy SIII (US variants d2att, d2cri, d2mtr, d2spr, d2tmo, d2vzw)
    Samsung Note (quincytmo, quincyatt)
    Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (p3100, p3110)
    Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (p5100, p5110)
It always gets me excited to see a release that gets us closer to a stable release and I'm guessing M2 is just a few kinks away.  After all M1 was released just a little over a month ago.

Will a stable - daily 4.2.2 CM 10.1 ROM be here by next month?

Twitter retiring TweetDeck for Android, iPhone & TweetDeck Air

After not increasing the token limit for Falcon Pro, Twitter today announced (via the acquired TweetDeck) that TweetDeck for Android, iPhone & TweetDeck Air would be retired in early May 2013.

They would instead be focusing on web based versions of TweetDeck, which to me is a strange approach considering the fact that more and more people are moving over to smartphone & tablets. Personally, I think Twitter is going backwards with this decision, people are moving away from desktops & laptops and Twitter is moving towards them. Strange, isn't it?

    Official TweetDeck statement.

CM 10.1 nightlies now available for the HTC One X (Endeavoru)

Cyanogenmod nightlies available for the HTC One X (Endeavoru)

Just tweeted by @Cyanogenmod - "HTC One X (endeavoru)  This device has graduated to 10.1 nightlies. Note the warning below.  Link"

As the article says, wait for the next nightly to drop or still use beta - 10 (Note - this is NOT for the AT&T One X).

Keep plugging away Team Cyanogenmod!  We all appreciate what you do for our older and newer phones.

    Otterbox Playing Favorites?

Is Otterbox playing favorites? With the release of the glass-clad Nexus 4, many consumers were eagerly anticipating an Otterbox case. Unfortunately, Otterbox decided that the demand wouldn't be high enough. Perhaps Otterbox didn't sell many Galaxy Nexus cases, and decided the risk was too great for the next generation Nexus. Interestingly enough though, Otterbox has created not one, but two Otterbox cases for the HTC One VX. While the One VX is a nice mid-range device, it is definitely not a flagship device like the Nexus 4. It has been estimated that Google has sold over 1 million Nexus 4s since launch. While that number isn't mind blowing compared to the Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 sales, it's somewhat surprising that Otterbox would create two cases for the relatively unknown One VX.

If you're still interested in an Otterbox or similar case, check out the Acase Supperleggera review. If you simply have your heart set on an Otterbox Defender, sign this

Nexus 4 Seidio Surface Case Review

Seidio has finally released its slim Surface case for the Nexus 4. Instead of offering two variations, Seidio decided to only sell one version with a built-in kickstand. Similar to previous Surface cases, this case includes the same soft touch plastic shell and high quality materials. If you're looking for a full protection case that isn't bulky, the Seidio Surface is perfect for you.

Sasmung Teases the Galaxy S4 with no peeks for us

With just about over a week left for Samsung's unpacked event, Samsung has started teasing us with those unpacked videos. The first teaser video was upload a few hours ago on Samsung's Youtube channel.

There is no glimpse of the Galaxy S4 for us on the video, but one thing is worth mentioning, even Samsung knows that girls can't keep secrets (no offense meant to any of our female readers).

Is it possible? Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Nexus getting 4.2.2?

    It can't be!  Could it?

Screen shot provided by El Madhatter over at Xda has us Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners wondering if this could be true. For us geeks this isn't that big of news because most of us already have 4.2.2 on our Galaxy Nexus one way or another. For the average Joe Blow that bought this phone because they were told by someone (probably a phone geek like us) that this phone will get Android updates faster than any other phone.  Three updates behind later (thanks Big Red) Joe is using an outdated phone (Thanks again Verizon).

Its looking like we'll have new radios, which is fantastic news but the same kernel and boot loader, which is a bit of a bummer.  The new baseband info is also new and can't be changed with a simple build.prop edit which leads me to believe this is the real deal. I guess someone could go through a hell of a lot of work to fake this but I doubt it.

So Joe Blow!  Keep your head up!  Your pretty little Verizon Galaxy Nexus just might be updated to 4.2.2.  What do ya say Verizon?

Nexus 4 KaysCase Slim Hard Shell Review

I love using my phones caseless. Especially the gorgeous glass sandwich that is the Google Nexus 4. Unfortunately, it's not always practical to use it without protection. If you'd like minimal protection, without the $15 price tag, the KaysCase Slim Hard Shell is a perfect option. Although the top and bottom edges aren't fully covered, it offers excellent back and side protection, along with a decent sized lip to protect the screen.

Ubuntu touch coimg to a plethora of devices

Well well well, looks like Ubuntu doesn't want to stop at the Nexus lineup. Today Ubuntu released images and instructions for more devices and lot for devices as work in progress.

Below is the list of devices for which images and instructions were released today :-
    • Asus Transformer Infinity - tf700t
    • Sony Xperia S - nozomi
    • Sony Xperia T - mint
    • Verizon Galaxy S3 - d2vzw
    • LG Nitro/Optimus HD - p930
    • Huawei Ascend G300 - u8815
There is also another list of work in progress devices, for more details and links head over to the devices page.

Silly Google Bloat Ware Is For Kids!

It seems Google planted a new app on our devices. I turned my phone on this morning and noticed a new app in my app drawer called Google Settings.
It doesn't seem to be much so put the pitchforks and torches away. There are a few simple settings in there that can easily be done else where but I guess the brass at Google figured they'd be helping us out by making these features easier accessible. Why wouldn't they?  It makes it easier for the average user to get tied in to their ecosystem.
As far as I can tell its nothing to get your panties in a bunch over. When the "we need your Social Security number app" comes out, then we grab the pitchforks.
So head to your app drawer, open the app and maybe it will be helpful to you (there is an ad mob ads check box).
Let us know what you think. Is Google getting a little Google app crazy?  Or are you on team Google and want to see more Gapps on your device?

Acase Screen Protector - Google Nexus 4 Video Review

Regardless of whether your phone's screen is made of Gorilla Glass or not, you will eventually notice scratches on it. For a few dollars, you would be foolish not to apply a protector. Acase provides a well priced pack of screen protectors that are guaranteed to protect your phone's screen.

Note: Tonight, I managed to drop my Nexus 4 two times. Each time, it fell from waist level onto a hard floor. If I had decided against a screen protector, my Nexus 4 would have several nice gouges in the screen. This $7 pack of screen protectors saved my Nexus 4.

An Android Developer needs help, Please Donate

I do not know how to put this in words, I can only this made me very sad. CyanogenMod device maintainer Ryan Scott aka ChiefzReloaded is suffering from a rare disease called Necrotizing Fasciitis. This infection is caused by bacteria that eats skin, fat, and other tissue; it is literally a flesh-eating disease.

He needs help as the bills are too much for his family to pay. Please help him in any way you can, either by donating to him via paypal at chiefz.reloaded@gmail.com or by sharing this post.

You can read more details about on CyanogenMod's Google+ post.

Ubuntu Touch ported to Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100

With the release of Ubuntu Touch images for the Nexus devices and the source code last week, we knew that ports for various devices would start coming up soon. Ubuntu touch has been ported to the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 (please do not try to flash it on other versions).

Please note if you flash the build it will wipe ClockworkMod Recovery (or any other custom recovery you have), and you cant transfer files to the phone. so make sure you have a PC, This will also bring back the Triangle of Evil.  To re-install CM or AOSP or any other ROM, you will need to use Odin or Heimdall.

For download links and installation instructions head over to the original thread on xda developers.

CyanogenMod 10 port for the Droid DNA gets a working Radio

A few days back we had reported that efforts were on to port CyanogenMod 10 to the Droid DNA. Well, some good progress was made last night, the port now has a working radio (and by radio I mean network access & data). Historically, the radio or ril (as the developers call it) is one of the hardest thing to port on Sense devices.

The ROM is still a work in progress and is not a daily driver as of now , but expect that to change very soon.

    Working:
Radio/RIL (no sound, so can't hear yet)
    SMS / MMS
    3G / 4G Data
    Display
    Orientation
    Sensors
    Lights
    NFC
    Torch
GPS (but unconfirmed as playstore is crashing)

    Not working:
    Camera
    Wifi
    Audio

Poetic Atmosphere Case For The Nexus 4 Video Review

It's no secret, the Nexus 4 isn't an overly sturdy phone. With glass on the front and back, it's twice as prone to cracks compared to most other phones. The Atmosphere case by Poetic is the prefect protection solution.  It boasts a sturdy hard shell, while maintaining a thin, stylish profile.

Confirmed : Galaxy S IV launching on March 14th 2013

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, mark your calendars, the much awaited Samsung Galaxy S IV is launching on March 14th 2013 at 7pm EST. Samsung is handing out paper invitations for the event at MWC.

We already have an idea of what to expect in the new smartphone from Samsung from the leak over the weekend, but rest assured more leaks will pop up over the internet in the coming few days.

Dual Boot Kernel for Samsung Captivate

Ever wanted to dual boot your Android phone, well if you own the good old Samsung Captivate, you can now do that.

XDA recognized developer DerTeufel1980 has made this possible through his custom kernel. This is why we love XDA, the developers out there never let your phone get old enough for you to not get excited every few months.

For details, download links & instructions head over to the original thread.

Trade Your Phone, Tablet or Laptop at Cell Trader Online

Have an Android phone, iPhone or Tablet laying around but you're really craving another device or gadget?
Cell Trader Online is the best place to be if you're in a predicament like the one I stated above!  There are a few online trading sites but I say Cell Trader Online is the best because of a these reasons.
    -  It's a tight knit community, where everyone knows each other and almost always willing to lend a helping hand or give sound advice
    -  Everyone there has knowledge in one area or another.... whether you have a question about carriers, gadget worth,  who ships first, condition rating questions and so on.
    -  It's become a reputable site with mods that truly have the best interest in us users having the best trading, selling or buying experience possible.
    -  It's tapatalk compatible.  If you're on the run and need to stay in contact with the person you're doing a transaction with it's a click of an app.
    -  Most of these members trade gadgets like it's their job so they need to keep their reputation in a positive light so other members don't have any concerns.
    -  It's FREE to join (who doesn't like free?)
    -  And most of all we talk cougars all day!  Just kidding.  It's a great bunch of people over there from all over the world.
    -  I could keep the list going but I think you get the idea.

I recently had the urge to go all pure Google with my devices.  I had the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, a Nexus 7 and an Acer Chrome Book.  I was missing two pieces to the puzzle, the Galaxy Nexus (because I'm on Verizon) and the Nexus 10.  So what the hell?  Let me put my mint Note 2 on CTO and see if I can get a Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 10.  BOOM!  It happened!  I'm now the proud owner of a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and a Chrome Book and somebody else is a happy camper with there new shiny Note 2.  That's pure win if you ask me.  BTW....  this is just one trade of many that I have done with the fine folks over at CTO.
As always use your head when you're thinking of trading or selling your expensive gadget.  There are still creeps in this world.  So keep an eye on peoples feedback, posts and most of all your gut feeling.  There's also off topic forums over at CTO where you can express your questions or concerns and I promise you someone will have a solid answer or advice for you.
To wrap this up I'm just going to say in my personal trading experiences Cell Trader Online is hands down the best and most reputable gadget trading, selling and buying site around.
So what are you waiting for?  Head over to CTO, make an account and start yucking it up with all of the local yocals.  I've made quite a few friends over there.  A bunch of great guys!  Like a brotherhood!

Just the tip. Just to see how it feels

Just the Tip. Just to see how it feels:
    One of my favorite things I've found on the internet are the little collections of LPT's (formally, Life Pro Tips);
which are basically little shortcuts in life that are meant to make things easier.
*This is where I finally learned how to open a banana the right way: like the monkeys do it,
from the bottom instead of the top. (It may not sound like much, but to me it felt like reading Page One of the Rosetta Stone.)

I thought it'd be simple enough to start a list of Android Pro Tips, as well; to hopefully make someone else's
Android experience a little easier...I mean, everyone loves a shortcut, right?

So, to make it official, (drumroll), here's the first one I can think of:

(A)ndroid (P)ro (T)ip #1: How to install an Android app like a Ninja.

(*My definition of Ninja here means without Anything: without a file manager, without a data connection or Play Store/Market link of any kind,
and without any cables/computer connection whatsoever.)

    Ever done this?
You flash a new Rom, and then go to install a copy of a much-needed app from your SD card.
Then you realize that the Chef/Developer forgot to include a Very Important Thing: a File Manager.
Unless you have a data connection/wifi access point/Play Store link, this can be a very real problem.
First time this happened to me, this was my thought process:

    my dumb brain:
"Wha?...er, no problem, I'll just install that copy of Root Explorer
I keep on my SD card, that'll be my new file manager!"

    my smart brain:
"How ya gonna access that, you Dink?"

    my dumb brain:
".....I don't care for you much, you know that?"

    my smart brain:
"Just shut up. Aren't you missing Storage Wars?.."

    Anyway,
It's frustrating to no end to have available, working copies of important apps,
just sitting there on your SD card, with no way to access them...

    Here's the solution.

A true Android Ninja would use this little-known trick:

    1. Open the Browser. (All Roms at least come with at least a browser, it's in the Constitution.)
    2. In the address bar, type "file:///sdcard/nameofapk.apk" (Don't type the exclamation points, and yes, those are 3 forward slashes.)
    3. Press Enter.
    4. Profit.

Now, the above example is written assuming you'll insert the name of your apk, and assuming also
that it's on the root directory of your SD card.
If it isn't, then just alter the command,
reflecting the proper folder and location; e.g.:
    "file:///sdcard/download/games/nameofapk.apk"

(Just make sure you remember the EXACT name and location of the app. You'll be all set.)

    So that's it.

Install an Android apk, straight from your browser, no cables necessary.

    Impress ALL your friends!

(I would guess that there are even more Browser commands that exist within the Android OS,
but that's the only one I know: anyone else know of some, please feel free to chime in!)

*Oh yeah, need to say this: "First Post!"
    More to follow, be back soon;

How to Install Ubuntu on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus

We all knew today was going to be a jam packed day with Ubuntu news for the Nexus devices so let's keep it going with installation instructions for your beloved Samsung Galaxy Nexus.  If you're new to the whole flashing, rooting and hacking process I suggest you sit this one out until the devs have worked out the kinks and make this as easy as possible for everyone.  For those of you ready to take the plunge read on!

These instructions were posted by Lesicnik1 over at XDA -

    1. Nandroid backup
    2. Factory Reset
    3. Grab quantal-preinstalled-armel+maguro.zip (MD5: e4c9c5601019ec7ce24f43f317361982) and quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip from here: http://nexfiles.kjonigsen.net/ubuntu/
If those links are down, use this one to download the needed files: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-tou...ntal/mwc-demo/
    4. Flash quantal-preinstalled-armel+maguro.zip
    5. Flash quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip (this one will take a while, grab some coffee )
    6. Reboot (screen will go black but after a few seconds Ubuntu is up)
    7. Profit

This install didn't wiped my sdcard. I just restored my TWRP backup after a short Ubuntu testdrive.
If you are paranoid, just copy your stuf from SDCARD to your PC before flashing.

As always folks!  Flash at your own risk!  And READ, READ and READ more if you have any doubts or questions.

I will be running Ubuntu on the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 for a week on each device.  At the end of the 7 days I will give a full review of my experience using Ubuntu as my daily driver.  So stay tuned folks!

How to Install Ubuntu on N4

Well the folks over at XDA wasted zero time sharing a clockworkmod flashable zip for Ubuntu on The Nexus 4.  Thanks to Brenix at XDA there are simple directions for us to take the plunge and get some of that beautiful Ubuntu on our Nexus 4's.

    1. Download quantal-preinstalled-armel+mako.zip and quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip from: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-tou...ntal/mwc-demo/
    2. Push files to sdcard
    3. Reboot into recovery (using CWM here..)
    4. Flash quantal-preinstalled-armel+mako.zip
    5. Flash quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip
    6. Reboot and enjoy

P.S.: This method retains CWM recovery. I haven't tried flashing the imgs via fastboot yet though..

In rare circumstances, the Nexus 4 may get into a state where it may not boot at all after the battery is drained ( even into recovery ). If this happens, the only way to restore it is to disassemble the back of the phone and unplug/plug the battery connector.

    taken from here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/ReleaseNotes

Here is the link for the XDA thread if you have any questions for Brenix.

More to come for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 so stay tuned folks!

Google Glasses - How They Feel and how I feel about the price

Watching this video for the first time had my mind spinning with ideas that I could use these for.  As a father of four, a chef, blogger and android geek the possibilities are endless with Google Glasses.  Rumor has it that Cyanogenmod's team will be having their fun with these as well, which has me even more excited.  Google Glasses could benefit my life in so many ways except for that rumored $1500 price tag.  That would take a lot of trading over at Cell Trader Online (more about this great site to come) to get my hands on a pair of these with out my wife making me wear these in a way that would be uncomfortable to sit down while using them.  $1500 dollars is a lot of money anyway you look at it.

Rumors have it that they will be available for consumers late 2013 - early 2014, so this gives me plenty of time to start rolling my change or start trading my butt off over at CTO.

Bottom line!  $1500 is way to much mula for the average user and android geek.  I realize it takes a lot to get a project like this off the ground and takes a lot of money to produce something like Google Glasses.   Google really needs to figure out a way to get this price point down, by at least half if they want the regular everyday guy and gal like myself sporting a pair of these.

With all of that being said, I will definitely own a pair of these even if it involves me getting on my hands and knees begging my wife.  Don't think I wont folks!

Am I out of line saying $1500 is too expensive for Google Glasses?
